Mangosteen
Pool Suites - Design Statement
by Gary Fell – GFAB
Architects - Bali
The
Suites at the Mangosteen are a mixture of Pool Penthouses and two bedroom
properties, all designed
to take advantage of the panoramic views over Chalong bay towards Phi
Phi Island. All suites are designed in a contemporary style featuring
extensive use of tropical hardwoods and local materials.
Living
areas are conceived as huge covered terraces where glass doors are able
to slide away out of sight or close to allow them to be air conditioned
whilst maintaining a large external terrace area beyond. All furniture
has been designed specially for the property by our architects to guarantee
that in look and feel, the Mangosteen suites will be unlike any other
property on Phuket Island.
It
has been said that space is the ultimate luxury. The pool suites
indulge this notion fully. The spacious bedrooms with ensuite
bathroom has doors which can be hidden away to open it up entirely
to the main
living space to create what is essentially a single “loft” like space.
The large penthouse style units with 10 meter private pools are located
to the sides of the 4 storey and offer 270 degree views and produce
an
essentially
limitless
feel
of
space.
The two bedroom terrace pool villas have been ingeniously designed to allow
the individual property to be divided into two independent units, thus enhancing
the potential
return for the investor. The two bedroom villas are arranged
in a terrace format which cascade down the natural slope of the land. Each
of these makes use of the roof to the property below as a garden; an extensive
deck area is set amongst densely planted areas and looks out across a reflecting
pool with an “infinity edge” which blends seamlessly into Chalong bay beyond.
In addition to the obvious aesthetic benefit, this also helps cool the property
by “passive” means thus reducing the reliance on mechanical ventilation.
In
addition to the accommodation on offer, on the entry level floor we
are creating a second restaurant for the Mangosteen property. This
looks out across our new oversize (2nd ) infinity edged swimming pool.
To provide for the seasonal shifts in humidity on the island the restaurant
has been designed to be able to be naturally or mechanically ventilated;
windows are able to drop out of sight behind a series of oversize banquet
seats on electrically operated pulleys. The restaurant features an
18m “long bar” which, in addition to offering the best drinks and cocktails
on the island houses a show kitchen where guests witness their food
being cooked to perfection.
